Carlos F. Londono, is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil Mediator, skilled in settling circuit civil and pre-litigation disputes. His unique perspective is informed primarily from being a business owner himself as well as by his work in the legal field as an international liaison, translator, and litigation paralegal assisting with building relationships with business owners, corporate teams, communities, and individuals in and outside of the United States. Besides his experience in civil litigation in the areas of construction defect, contract disputes, insurance bad faith, and personal injury, he also has experience in immigration of individuals of extraordinary ability, as well as foreign investors.
About Mediation
Mediation provides an alternative to the win-lose approach of our adversarial, complex, and often quite expensive legal process. Mediation is often effective when communication between the parties has broken down and protracted litigation or the prospect of future litigation of their dispute is cost prohibitive. An impartial mediator helps parties to privately and confidentially clarify their disputes, communicate clearly, and reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation is often the only opportunity for the parties to make decisions about the resolution of their dispute before the decision-making process is taken out of their hands by a judge or jury, who despite the evidence may ultimately decide against them. Mediation is often the only time the parties and their counsel talk directly with one another in an effort to resolve their disputes before the expense of months or years of litigation, trial, and or the costs of appeal have become a factor.
Perspective
While many mediators are attorneys, have been attorneys, or have been judges, Mr. Londono’s perspective as a mediator has formed primarily by his experience in negotiations independently of these professions. In circuit civil cases, clients will be attended with excellent counsel of their own. In mediation Mr. Londono understands it is not his place try to litigate the case or judge a case’s merits per se. He fully understands the heightened levels of expertise both judges and attorneys bring to the table in every matter they represent or have before them and always recommends clients defer to their respective counsels and their legal expertise. Mr. Londono’s role as a mediator is informed primarily by his understanding that he is there simply to help facilitate and assist in clarifying the key points of the legal dispute and to assist in arriving at an agreeable resolution that makes further litigation and all associated mounting legal and emotional expenditure that come with it unnecessary.
Mr. Londono was educated both abroad in Medellin, Colombia and in the United States in his youth and approaches matters from a unique perspective. Informed by a strong mix of public relations, business acumen, and legal experience Mr. Londono studied International Economics, Social Psychology, and Communications at Florida Atlantic University and has a Masters of Science in Global Strategic Communications with a Graduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution and Negotiation from Florida International University. Mr. Londono, also has a certified highest language proficiency of “Superior” in fluent Spanish and English translation.
